Undercarrier: fixes and polish come first, Episode 2 after the Kickstarter

Rattle on air at KDRD 1340 AM.

V2.0.5 went out to All Access members on 18 October 2026. It’s the last Undercarrier update with new content for a while. It brings:

  • proper controller support through Steam Input;
  • real light fixtures;
  • rare weapon skins;
  • the motel makeover;
  • smoother first launches.

From here on, every update is about making Episode 1, Graveyard Shift, play better: bug fixes, polish, performance and swapping out placeholder assets. No new features.

Why we’re stopping new content

Episode 1 has grown a lot in a few weeks: new guns, gore, wall-running, Hang Time, controller support and new lighting. That’s a lot of moving parts, and we’d rather get them right than pile more on top. So the plan is simple: finish and harden Episode 1 first.

Episode 2 work won’t start until after the Kickstarter. The campaign opens in November 2026, and what it raises decides how big Episode 2 can be. Until then, every hour goes into Episode 1.

Where the fixes are

We started by playing through every map in V2.0.5 and logging everything that came up. The good news: no crashes or progress blockers turned up. Every level we tested could be finished.

Here’s what we’re working through:

Coming next: V2.0.5.1, a small fix update (in testing now)

  • The Dark Crescents no longer cover the view with a dark mass of arm. The swords and the arms holding them are visible and properly lit on every cut, in normal and Viking Mode.
  • The Haymaker no longer draws a black fist and forearm across the middle of the screen when you release it. This covers Fists, Brass Knuckles and the Rune Gauntlets.
  • Blood on clothing no longer falls back to a plain material on the first bloody hit.
  • In Viking Mode, switching to Fists, Brass Knuckles, the Rune Gauntlets or the Dark Crescents after another weapon no longer leaves a frozen arm across the screen.

Fixed in our test builds, coming in the next update

  • Ammo pickups and the new traffic lights no longer show a plain grey stand-in material.
  • The new explosion effects now play on every map.
  • Shaders are prepared before you reach the first fight, for fewer stutters the first time you play.

Being worked on now

  • Replacing placeholder textures: 23 surfaces are getting proper materials, among them walls, floors, sidewalks, ceiling tiles, wood siding, chain-link and metal grating. They’re in testing across Act I now.
  • The broadcast booth where the game opens is getting a full makeover.
  • Steadier frame rates on High settings at 1080p.
  • Steam Deck first launch: making sure the game starts cleanly on a fresh Steam Deck.
  • Smaller polish: a few animation glitches on the Viking weapons, and enemy footsteps that slide.

The free Undercarrier demo on Steam is still coming. Its window is TBA.

What’s next

  1. More fix updates for All Access members, in-game as usual.
  2. The Kickstarter in November 2026. The pre-launch page is up: press Notify me on launch to hear the moment it goes live.
  3. After the campaign, work on Episode 2, The Network, begins.

The full plan is on the roadmap, and you can wishlist Undercarrier on Steam.

Pre-release: all art, audio and other assets are work-in-progress placeholders and will be replaced before release.
